Heather Oxman
HEATHER OXMAN
Born in Saskatchewan, Heather grew up in back of the general store and post office at Dog Pound, Alberta, and graduated from University of Calgary with a Honours degree in Animal Biology. After an additional diploma from SAIT, she served a short time as a Respiratory Therapist and Clinical Instructor at Foothills Hospital. Then, in 1981, she took the summer off and pursued an opportunity to become a nature interpreter at Elk Island National Park. After 30+ years with Parks Canada in a number of fantastic places with wonderful people, doing a variety of work, including volunteer management, leadership training, public education and outreach and historic site management, she retired in the summer of 2012. During her work years, she maintained a busy life volunteering for various organizations including Pink Triangle Services, United Way Ottawa-Carleton, Interpretation Canada, Quest Theatre Society and others. Her consulting business, Intrepid Interpretation, also kept her busy with part -time contract work where she delivered partnership development training to various government departments, such as the Coast Guard, Fisheries and Oceans, Citizenship and Immigration and Natural Resources Canada. Other clients included Family Physicians of Ottawa Civic Hospital and Mental Health Commission of Canada.
Heather settled in Lethbridge in 2013. Post retirement, she volunteered as the Patient Advocate Coordinator for Open Arms Patient Advocacy Society for a period of time, and then became involved with the Southern Alberta Council on Public Affairs. She established a new coaching business, Bold Change Coaching, offering planning and personal coaching to groups and individuals. She currently is an active member of the Canadian Federation of University Women as National VP Advocacy and on a number of other committees. She is also the Co-Chair of the Community Wellness Advisory Board in Lethbridge and Co-Chair of her neighbourhood association.
